Render, don’t guess
The check draws each page and samples the pixels under dark regions, then asks whether selectable text sits there. If it does, the recovered text appears in the report.
How a leak is found
Text under a dark box
Text whose position sits under a dark region is flagged as recoverable, with the leaked text truncated in the report. The rule to remember: if you can select it, it was not redacted.
Scans and unapplied annotations
A page with no text layer and a large dark block cannot be verified, so it is flagged for human review. A Redact annotation that was never flattened is named, and so is any optional content layer that could hide text.
Run it before every privileged production
Redaction failures are a routine filing, and they are invisible on screen. The check answers the three questions a receiver asks — is there text under the black, is there an unapplied annotation, is there an unverifiable scan — page by page.
