What the software is
BatesKit is a browser-based tool that adds Bates numbers, confidentiality legends and exhibit labels to PDF files. It runs entirely on your device. There is no account, no hosted service, and no copy of your documents anywhere but your own machine.
Licence
A $19 payment grants you a perpetual, non-exclusive licence to use the tool without the free-tier limits, for your own work or the work of the organisation that paid for it. The licence is delivered as a signed key. Verification is a signature check performed in your browser against a public key shipped with the page, so it does not depend on this site remaining online.
- Use it on as many of your own machines and browsers as you need. There is no activation count and no machine binding.
- Do not publish, resell, or share the key outside the organisation that bought it. It is not technically prevented, which is exactly why it is asked for in writing.
- Do not remove or work around the licence check and then redistribute the result as your own product.
Free tier
The free tier processes one file of up to twenty-five pages with every feature enabled. It exists so that you can verify the output on your own document before paying. It is not a trial that expires.
Refunds
Write within fourteen days of purchase and you will be refunded, without an argument about why. No reason is required. Payment is handled by Waffo Pancake as merchant of record, so the refund is issued through that provider and appears on the same card. The free tier lets you test the exact output beforehand, which is why this window can be unconditional.
This is not legal advice
The tool does not know your matter. Whether a numbering scheme, a legend, or an exhibit convention satisfies a particular court, a protective order, or an agreement between counsel is yours to confirm. Nothing on this site is legal advice, and using the tool creates no professional relationship of any kind.
Stamping cannot be undone
A number written into a PDF is part of that PDF. There is no undo. For that reason the tool never writes over your input: output always goes to a directory you choose, and your originals are left untouched. You are responsible for keeping your own copies, and for checking the output before it goes out the door. The manifest CSV exists so that check can be mechanical rather than a matter of memory.
Limits of the software
- A single PDF larger than roughly 300MB will fail, because the writer holds one document in memory at a time. This is a browser memory limit, not a policy.
- Scanned pages receive a searchable number and a body that remains an image. There is no OCR.
- Encrypted files require the password. Damaged files are skipped and reported rather than silently dropped.
- Browsers without the File System Access API fall back to a ZIP download, which has a lower size ceiling.
No warranty
The software is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. It is one developer’s tool, not an enterprise system with an uptime commitment.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, liability for any claim connected to the software is limited to the amount you paid for it. It is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including missed deadlines, sanctions, or the cost of redoing a production. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case the narrowest permitted version applies.
Changes
These terms may change. The date at the top changes with them, and a change never retroactively removes a licence you already bought.
